Establishment and Objectives
AsianSIL Bangladesh (the Bangladesh Chapter of the Asian Society of International Law) is a body established in 2014 under the AsianSIL Bangladesh Trust. The Chapter is recognized as a country chapter for Bangladesh of the Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL), an international non-partisan, non-profit and non-governmental organization with the objectives of (a) promoting research, education and practice of international law by serving as a centre of activities among international law scholars and practitioners in Asia and elsewhere, in a spirit of partnership with other relevant international, regional and national societies and organizations, (b) fostering and encouraging Asian perspectives of international law, and (c) promoting awareness of and respect for international law in Asia.
To celebrate its formal launching, AsianSIL Bangladesh successfully organized the regional conference of the AsianSIL on 22-24 August 2014 at Rupashi Bangla Hotel, Dhaka on South Asia and International Law: Engagement or Encounter?. The conference was participated by nationals representing UK, USA, Australia, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Greece, Philippines, Vietnam, Iran, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
AsianSIL Bangladesh aims to serve, in line with the overall objectives of the AsianSIL, as a centre of activities among scholars and practitioners in Bangladesh for study and research in the discipline of international law. AsianSIL Bangladesh also aims to initiate a wide range of activities including organizing conferences, seminars, workshops, trainings, and moot court competitions and publish the Bangladesh Journal of International Law, a specialized journal dedicated to international law related issues.
